SPECIAL NOTE: This chair was acquired at an estate auction of high-end mid century modern furniture with many Knoll and Nakashima pieces, all of which came from the same home. The auction house staff was familiar with the family presenting the items for auction. The estate family lived within an hour's drive of Nakashima's Bucks County studio and was understood to have collected his pieces. At auction, this particular piece had a hand-written information tag labeling it as a Nakashima design for Knoll. Despite thorough research, and despite seeing other practically identical designs (although in a different finish) being clearly presented for sale as Nakashima, we have not been able to definitively authenticate or positively attribute this as a Nakashima contribution, or a Knoll production piece, and therefore, we cannot currently warrant its authenticity as such.
It has been positively suggested to us that we contact the Nakashima Foundation, along with Knoll historians, for authentication purposes. We intend to do so. If we can confirm this as an authentic piece, we will appropriately adjust the listing price upward.
