Marbro Lamp Co. was founded by Morris Markoff and his brother - the name of the company is actually a combination of their names. The company was started in Los Angeles, California right after World War II.

From the onset, they sold lamps and only later on did they begin to sell decorative accessories, tables, and animal figurines. Most of the pieces sold by this company mainly catered to interior designers and upscale furniture stores. However they have faithful Hollywood celebrity following. Marbro products were usually made to order so it took about 75 to 90 days for the product to be completed and delivered to its owner. Marbro was well-known for importing the components that made up the lamp bodies. For example, the ceramic, glass, etc were purchased from smaller companies around the world. Later on most of the brass came from India. Once the parts arrived, a group of their employees would make the shades and other finishing touches.
